Duxbury, founded in 1637, was named by Myles Standish after Duxbury Woods in his hometown of Chorley, Lancashire, Great Britain.  Settled by the Pilgrims Myles Standish, and John Alden in 1624, Duxbury was incorporated in 1637. Known at the time as a shipbuilding community, today the town is known for its oyster beds and cranberries.

Located 35 miles southeast of Boston, Duxbury is bordered by Cape Cod Bay to the east, and Duxbury Bay and Kingston Bay to the southeast. It has gained popularity as a summer destination, with many flocking to Duxbury Beach every year. A few other notable points of interest include the historic Alden House Museum and King Caesar House, as well as Island Creek.
